Patty Newberry Atkinson, age 61, of Donalsonville, GA, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home at 3:00 PM with Rev. Michael Wingertsahn officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be the 3rd grade teachers of Seminole County Elementary School. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Patty to the Patty Atkinson Scholarship Fund for Children, PO Box 38 Donalsonville, GA 39845.
Ms. Atkinson was born in Donalsonville, GA on October 12, 1962, to Jack and Linda Lane Newberry. She was a 1981 graduate of Seminole County High School and received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy State University. Patty had taught at Seminole County Elementary School for the past 30 years. Seminole County Elementary School was proud to name her Teacher of the Year in 2000 and again in 2010. Ms. Atkinson was truly devoted to her students, as well as her school system. Patty was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators and enjoyed playing Bunko with her amazing group of friends, “the Bunko girls”. She was of the Christian faith.
Patty leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Drew Atkinson (Tiffany Cline) of Atlanta, GA; her brother, Jack Newberry (Kim) of Iron City, GA; her aunt, Jackie Skeen of Ft.Walton Beach, FL; her uncle, Don Skeen (JoAnn) of Donalsonville, GA; nephews, Lane Newberry of Iron City, GA and McKay Pleasant (Alyssa Swords) of Arlington, GA; and mother-in-law, Patricia Atkinson of Donalsonville, GA. Also surviving are “The Spooner Boys”, Shea Jones, and numerous other cousins; her “3rd Grade Crew” and the remainder of her Seminole County Elementary School Family; as well as numerous special friends!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Newberry and Linda Lane Newberry Pleasant, and her brother, John “Porky” Pleasant.
