She was born in Randolph County, NC to the late Hugh Robert and Elizabeth Forrester York. At the age of eight, her family moved to Asheboro, NC, where her father originated and owned Asheboro Motor Company. She graduated from Asheboro High School and Bob Jones University. In September 1952, in Oxford England, she married Donald Egbert Baldwin, son of the late Connie Egbert and Lee Craven Baldwin of Ramseur, NC. They moved to Sanford in 1957, and she later taught first grade and kindergarten at St. Clair Elementary School, and later at Ingram Elementary School until her retirement. She also started the first NC State kindergarten in Lee County in 1972. Upon her retirement, she worked with Lee County Schools as Parent Coordinator for the Title I Program, in the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, and was a private tutor to many children in Lee County.

She and Don became members of First Baptist Church upon their move to Sanford in 1957. She was very active at First Baptist, serving on various church committees and teaching line dancing classes at the Family Life Center. Patty was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class until her death.

Patty loved spending time with family and friends, traveling and talking with former students.

She is preceded in death by her loving husbands, Donald E. Baldwin (died 2002) and Odell B. Kivett (died 2020); her parents, Hugh Robert and Elizabeth Forrester York, sister, Dorothy York Lamb and twin brothers, Bobbie and Jimmie York.
