Patty Kay Hudson passed away peacefully on the morning of March 13th at the age of 69, following complications from cancer. She handled her illness with remarkable courage, and her kindness and grace will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Patty was born on April 22nd in Sayre, Oklahoma, to John Robert Dungan and Gracie V. Dungan (Williams). She grew up on the family farm just outside Sayre alongside her four brothers. As the only girl and arriving six years after the youngest brother, Patty was something of a happy accident—and probably a little spoiled—but she never shied away from farm life. Her early years were filled with eating peaches straight off the tree, helping her parents and brothers tend to the farm, and enjoying life with her many friends and relatives—experiences that shaped her generous and grounded nature.

After graduating from Sayre High School, Patty earned her degree from Central State University. She had a diverse and fulfilling career, starting at SemaSys, Inc., where she worked in human resources and payroll. She later joined The Daily Oklahoman, where she worked in the credit department and customer service. In her later years, Patty found joy working at Sam’s Club in the Tastes and Tips department, where her friendly nature made her a favorite among coworkers and customers alike. Patty’s life was rich with creativity and connection. She had a passion for quilting, art, and music, and found peace in gardening and caring for her pets, especially her dachshunds. She also loved the outdoors and cherished trips to places like Yellowstone National Park, New Mexico, and Florida, where she found comfort in nature.

Patty married Doyle Glynn Hudson, her high school sweetheart, and they shared 49 loving years together. They were blessed with one son, Zachary Glynn Hudson, who was the light of her life. Zac and his wife, Danielle Burns, gave Patty two cherished grandchildren, Zane and Zeke, who brought her endless joy. Patty grew up alongside her four brothers: Jack Dungan, Elmo Dungan, John Dungan, and Bob Dungan. Jack and Bob, along with her parents, preceded her in death. She remained close to her family throughout her life, and her many nieces and nephews—too numerous to name—considered her a steady and loving presence in their lives. After the passing of her mother, Grace, Patty naturally stepped into the role of matriarch, becoming the glue that held her large and sometimes slightly dysfunctional family together.

Known for her quick wit and infectious laugh, Patty had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. She was a steadying presence for her nieces, nephews, and other family members, offering both comfort and honest advice. She wasn’t afraid to tell you when you were wrong—but she always managed to build you up at the same time. Even through her battle with cancer, Patty showed remarkable strength and resilience, and her ability to uplift others during difficult times remains an inspiration to those she leaves behind.Patty’s legacy of love, humor, and strength will endure for generations. Her steady presence and unwavering support will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched.
