ALBANY - Paul Edmund Bailey, 65, died on August 24 after a long cancer illness that he battled with grace, strength, and his characteristic humor. He was the son of John E. (Jack) Bailey and Mary Rosalind (Lynn) (née Wild) Bailey, who preceded him in death. Paul grew up in the Village of Colonie. In his youth he enjoyed riding bikes and hanging out with friends at “The Crater” and later making music with his band mates, holding weekly practices in our family home’s basement. He attended Colonie Central High School where he was a stand-out athlete in baseball, lettering twice as a talented pitcher at the varsity level. He had also played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball at Cook Park.

After high school Paul worked at the former Parc V Café for a number of years, where he made many good friends. He then moved into a career in office supply sales and management, followed by many years in assisting with the operation of the Capital City Rescue Mission’s free clothing ministry.

Paul was a lifelong devoted fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. He enjoyed a strong but friendly rivalry with fans of the Red Sox and Patriots. He made a number of trips over the years to see his teams play at various stadiums.

Paul had many challenges in life and found a haven at the Capital City Rescue Mission, where he became a strong believer in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Paul is survived by his brother Frank Bailey, Dover DE; sister Mary Rogers, Delmar NY; nephews Matt and Sam; and many Bailey, Cahill, Gleason and Wild cousins. He is also survived by a dear friend and mentor at the Mission, Donna Drum, Director of Clothing Distribution.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 12 at 2:00 pm in the chapel at the Capital City Rescue Mission, 259 S. Pearl St., Albany. Burial at St. Agnes Cemetery will be private.
