Paul Joseph Burchette

Kinston – Paul Burchette, 51, passed away on December 25, 2025.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, 2 – 4 PM, at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston, NC.
Born in Kinston, Lenoir County, NC, he was a proud graduate of Kinston High School, a member of the Boy Scout of America, and the owner of Southern Turf. Growing up, Paul spent many weekends traveling with his father and friends to the Civil War shooting club. This led to his love for hunting and simply enjoying watching deer at dusk in the local fields. If anyone knew Paul, they knew his passions. If Paul wasn't on the water and was fishing with friends or tackling a culinary masterpiece (a passion he acquired by watching his mother's catering practices), he would be on the road experiencing another music show or listening to his favorite bands or strumming melodies on his guitar. Paul was the recipient and survivor of a bilateral lung transplant. He survived for 5 years, and 4 months.
We want to thank all of the Duke Organ Transplant team, his donor, nurses, clinical visits, and
case workers who cared for and supported Paul through his miraculous journey.
Paul was preceded in death by parents, Margaret and Joe Burchette.
He is survived by his second cousin, Janet "Scooter" Marshall and husband Craig; extended family, Chris Dodd, Laurie Miller, Lois Pressly, Linda Dodd, Amanda Miller, Kimberly Aspden, and Susan Smith; and many wonderful friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gordon Street Christian Church, at 118 E Gordon Street, Kinston, NC 28501, in Paul's honor.
