Old Forge
Paul M. Case, 71, of Old Forge, passed away on July 22, 2023 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with his loving family by his side.
He was born on April 23, 1952 in Syracuse, NY, a son of the late Floyd and Catherine (Palmer) Case. Paul was a graduate of Camden High School and furthered his education at Syracuse University studying music. On September 21, 1996, he was united in marriage to Julie M. Helmes and shared a blessed union of 26 years, filled with much love and devotion. Paul was a very well-known self-employed musician, playing locally and all the way down to Florida.
In his free time, Paul loved to go fly fishing, wherever the fish were biting. Music was his life and his proudest achievements were winning 2 Sammy Awards. In 2017 he won the Hall of Fame Award and in 2023 he won the Sammy for Best Singer Songwriter Recording. Paul made countless friends over the years. Paul has left a legacy to not hundreds, but thousands of people that not only love his music, but also loved the man. You didn't have to be a musician to be close to Paul, you just had to be a friend. Never letting distance or time be a factor. Many times, Paul would call friends to reach to see how you were doing, to say hello, and tell you that he loved you.
Unmatched in his resolve he was a true warrior, battling his illness with courage to hang on to the life he loved so much. Paul may no longer be with us in the physical sense, but all of us, especially in the Adirondacks, will have his gift of friendship and music in our hearts forever. Let us go forward and live our best lives as we all know Paul would want us to, but to be sure to do in his words, with "A Little More Heart".
Surviving are his loving wife, Julie, Old Forge; children, Paul Case and daughter, Katharine Case, also from Old Forge. He was predeceased by his brother, Darryl Case. Other survivors include a half-sister, Claudia Ordway of Fulton, a stepsister Karol Spadafora of Rome and step brother, Craig Campbell of Iowa.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at McCauley Mountain on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 2pm-6pm. Arrangements are with Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge.
Remembrances may be made to the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance or The Herkimer Humane Society.

Albert and I always enjoyed seeing Paul come into our Mountain Music store to buy strings, hang out, or discuss instruments. He was a talented musician who gave back to his community through our non-profit organizations. I sat on the KHOROS Board: A Child Centered Musical Theater for Deaf and Hearing Children and every year Paul would entertain at our Finale' Gathering at McCauley Mountain Chalet. During these last few years Albert and I are so pleased that Paul received recognition for his accomplishments, successes, and contributions to the music scene in Central New York and beyond.
