Canastota- Paul L. Douglass, 72, Pine Ridge Road, died Friday, August 22, 2025, in the comfort of his own home, surrounded be his loving and caring family, following a short illness of a few weeks. Born in Canastota, on September 16, 1952, he was the son of William and Ione Cumber Douglass, Sr. A lifelong resident of the Canastota area, Paul was a graduate of Canastota High School, Class of 1971 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years during the Viet Nam War era, stationed at Camp Lejeune and receiving the National Defense Service Medal. He married Deborah Nodine in St. Francis Church, Durhamville, on March 17, 1973. Prior to his retirement, Paul was employed with Revere Copper and Brass Products, Inc. and previously was employed with Oneida Limited for thirty-two years. He was a dedicated thirty-five year member of the Canastota American Legion, Charles Miller Post # 140, where he was a Past Post Commander, served as the Madison County Commander, the New York State District Commander and the New York State Department Vice Commander, a thirty-four year member and Past Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer of the 40 and 8 Society, a seven year member and current Assistant Director of the American Legion Riders. Paul could always be found in the bleachers, cheering for his daughters and then later for his grandchildren, at every sporting event and major milestone. He loved hunting and fishing with his grandson and best friend, Paul Ward. Sr. Paul always said, " tell everyone I had fun!" Surviving besides his wife of fifty-two years, Deborah "Debbie" are his two daughters, Nicole (Travis) Croshier of Minoa and Candy (John) Graham of Corning; his five grandchildren, Kyle (Mariah) Phillips of Volney, Jakob Phillips of Canastota, Lacey, Johnny and Janey Graham, all of Corning and the light of his life, great-granddaughter, Maeve Phillips; his three sisters, Carol Cobey of Camden, Alicia Paro of Canastota and Kathleen Cline of Wampsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Diana Douglass and two brothers, William Douglass, Jr. and Nelson Douglass, Sr. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend Chauncey Brown, officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be made in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7 PM, Thursday. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Pavillion Building Fund, Canastota American Legion, 325 South Peterboro Street, Canastota, NY 13032.
