I met Paul in the early 1970s when he was a postgraduate student under the supervision of my father at Dalhousie University. He became a close friend of my father and eventually my stepmother. I shared several enjoyable trips to Europe with him and my stepmother between 2004 and 2014, Italy being his favourite of these destinations, I think - he was hoping to return there. He phoned my stepmother regularly in her years of declining health and since her passing we have called each other almost every month . As Sandra says he was a unique and extraordinary person, very learned but entirely unpretentious, very kind and generous and full of both deep thoughts and amusing stories . I shall very much miss our conversations.

Paul and I met in 1972 at kings college in Halifax Nova Scotia. We ran into each other on and off for years. About five years ago we began almost weekly phone calls, first to update each other on the health of a mutual friend and then ... well it became a pleasant weekly chat. I will miss him a great deal. He was a unique and extraordinary person.
