Paul Frabutt Obituary

AUSTINTOWN — Paul Bernard Frabutt, 73, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024.

He was born Feb. 10, 1950, in Ashtabula, a son of the late Ernest and Elsie Pizzuto Frabutt.

Paul lived a life dedicated to the beauty of music. At the young age of 12, Paul’s musical journey began when he started playing piano in local churches. His extraordinary talent was evident from the start and he quickly became known for his exceptional skills. Over the years, Paul went on to teach piano to aspiring musicians who were inspired by his passion and expertise. He not only shared his knowledge but also instilled a deep love for music in all those he mentored.

Paul’s commitment to his craft extended beyond teaching. He possessed a remarkable ability to rebuild and tune pianos. This skill allowed him to breathe life into old instruments, ensuring their melodies would continue to be heard for generations to come.

In addition to his teaching and piano restoration work, Paul served as the music director at various local churches. Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Joseph, and St. Michael were fortunate to have him lead their congregations. His incredible dedication elevated every service, enriching the spirituality of those gathered.

Education played a significant role in shaping Paul’s musical career as well. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in music education from Youngstown State University.

He was an active member of the Girard Swing Band and contributed his piano skills alongside fellow musicians, bringing joy through swing tunes. Notably, Paul enjoyed performing with the symphony for an impressive two decades.

Beyond music, Paul found solace in nature. Gardening allowed him to cultivate beauty and connect with the earth. His green thumb brought forth vibrant blossoms. Additionally, he had multiple aquariums and loved watching the fish swim around. He was an animal lover, especially to his cat, Kamir and his dogs, Jakey and Barney.

Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Frabutt; daughters, Mary Kathryne Tegethoff of Pittsburgh, Pa., Danielle (Michael) Garcia of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Madeline Burdick of Youngstown; sisters, Nancy Grable of Columbus and Diane Mazzerella of Ashtabula; brother, David (Diana) Frabutt of Morgantown, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Daniel and Clara Tegethoff, Liam Garcia and Samuel Burdick.
