Paul Hoenige Freeland, born on April 26, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on June 12, 2024. A devoted husband to Sue Freeland, father to sons Steven (Anita) Freeland and Gregg Freeland, grandfather to Joshua (Ashley) Freeland, Jacob (Ashley) Freeland, Alexis (David) Monnin, and Jordan Freeland, and great-grandfather to seven beloved great-grandchildren.
A man of exceptional commitment and service, Paul graduated from Withrow High School in 1951 before bravely serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned two bronze stars. Following his military service, he dedicated 32 years of his life to the Cincinnati Police Department, excelling in various roles within the identification section, intelligence division, detective division, and as the administrative assistant to the police chief. He finished his career with the NFL as a drug testing coordinator.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul found joy in simple pleasures – whether camping, casting a line while fishing, or his Saturday lunches with the boys. A faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, he actively contributed to the congregation as Chairman, Elder, and Board member of Little Bud Preschool, leaving an indelible mark on the community he held dear.
In his leisure time, Paul could be found enjoying a round of golf, with the 19th hole being his favorite.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 9:30am at the Christ Lutheran Church, 3301 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45251. An FOP service will be held at 10:45am and funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Burial will take place at 12:00pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231. A luncheon will follow burial back at Christ Lutheran Church.
