Paul L. Fundanish, 85, of Amherst, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday following a brief illness. A proud native of Pennsylvania, Paul spent the last 26 years of his life in Ohio. He earned two degrees from Penn State University before moving to Chicago, where he worked alongside his brother and graduated from the American Institute of Baking, gaining expertise in the restaurant industry.

Paul's career flourished as he joined the McDonald's system, eventually rising to the position of Director of National Field Service at the company's headquarters, overseeing operations for over 3,000 stores. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to develop, own, and operate nine successful restaurants over 22 years, including his beloved dinner houses in Pennsylvania, the two Widow Brown Inns, and the Italian favorite Aurelio's. Later, he transitioned to consulting before opening Jack Creek Southwestern Steakhouse in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After relocating to Ohio, he continued his passion for food by launching Brown Bag Burgers in Lorain and North Olmsted.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Barnhart Fundanish of Amherst; Paul's son, Christopher Fundanish; and his granddaughter, Louisa, all residing in North Carolina. He is also remembered by his sister, Dorothy Mashensic of Elyria.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Suzanne Fundanish, as well as his brothers Carl, Stanley, Eddie, and his sister Teressa Pesansky.

A burial service will take place at a later date at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Beulah, Pennsylvania, where he will rest alongside his family.

Paul was a dear friend for many years, since I was 20 years old. We had many great conversations over the years. I am missing them already. His death was a sad surprise, since I didn't know he was sick again.
