Obituary of Paul E. Hanson

Paul E. Hanson, 77, of Royersford, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Paul was born on April 21, 1948, in Dowagiac, Michigan, to Everett J. Hanson and Jean (Grayson) Hanson. He spent much of his adult life in Philadelphia, a city he knew deeply through both his work and the communities he served and belonged to.

A graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in journalism, Paul devoted his professional life to communications and government service. He served in the United States Navy from 1971 through 1984, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander and working in public affairs. His service included both overseas and stateside assignments, and he continued the family tradition of military service spanning several generations.

Following his military career, Paul worked in public relations for the School District of Philadelphia, where he spent many years helping connect the district with the communities it served. After retiring from the School District, Paul continued in federal service with the Naval Supply Systems Command, supporting Navy aviation programs in logistics management.

In his personal life, Paul expressed himself through the spaces he created, and he enjoyed designing his home and garden in ways that reflected his character. He loved his rescue cats and lived simply, demonstrating respect for the environment in everyday ways. He valued fairness and equity and carried those principles into both his professional and personal life.

Paul will be remembered for hosting holiday gatherings marked by elaborate menus and his treasured Spode Christmas Tree dishes, which became a lasting tradition among friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Weeden, her husband Scott, and grandson, Nathaniel Weeden, all of Royersford.

Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul's memory to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

Arrangements by Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 West Main Street, Trappe, PA, (610) 489-7900.
