Paul D. "Hap" Hapgood age 92, of Plymouth, formerly of Braintree passed away on August 29, 2023, after a long battle with Dementia. Paul was the son of the late Margaret M. (Aschoff) Hapgood and William S. Hapgood. He was married for 56 years to his beloved wife, Helen (Fandel) Hapgood, he was the devoted father of Scott Hapgood and his wife, Laura of Halifax, Jonathan Hapgood and his wife, Gina of Buzzards Bay, Joel Hapgood and his wife Michelle of Bridgton, ME. He was the devoted grandfather of Rebecca and Emily Hapgood of Halifax, and the great-grandfather to Naia, Malachi, Osiris & Elijah of Buzzards Bay, and Lilly, Isla, Odin, and Ari of Connecticut
Hap was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Coyne Electrical & Technical School of Boston. He was a 50-year member of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts- Gate of the Temple Lodge District #7. Hap's sport was judo, he was a 2nd-degree belt from the Kodokan Judo Institute and a previous member of Sfu Yudanshakai and New England Judo. Hap was a co-founder of the Quincy YMCA Judo Club and the founder of the Brockton YMCA Sport Judo Club. He was a previous Plymouth Town Meeting Member for 17 years between Precinct 9 and Precinct 12.
A period of visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The burial will follow the service at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset St., Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cranberry Hospice 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
