Paul S. Hollman, age 78, of North East, passed away on Friday December 6, 2024 at his residence. He lived a life defined by service, community, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Paul was born on February 22, 1946 in Marion Center, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Marion Center Joint High School and while still in his senior year, enlisted in the Army National Guard in Punxsutawney on December 3, 1963. He served 6 years in the National Guard as a sharpshooter and was awarded the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal in January of 1965.
He was formerly employed by General Electric in maintenance and as an electrician for over 31 years before taking early retirement at age 54.
Always an avid outdoorsman, Paul spent his free time hunting, target shooting, riding his motorcycle, and maintaining his land. A favorite activity was riding four wheelers with his great-grandchildren. When he wasn't at home, Paul could be found at his church assisting in some sort of project or endeavor. He hauled grapes in the fall and plowed endless driveways and parking lots over many winters, often taking a great-grandchild or two along for the ride.
A man of faith and dedication, Paul was an active member of the East Lake Road Alliance Church. Where he was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. As a proud veteran, he demonstrated his commitment to his country through his involvement with the American Legion Post 571, the East Erie Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, and the NRA.
He was a familiar face at the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. Paul exemplified giving back through his selfless donations of blood, plasma, and platelets throughout most of his life.
When he was ready to relax, he enjoyed attending gun shows or playing cards with friends. Paul cherished the simple joys of life, like watching NASCAR races and Gunsmoke reruns with his great-grandchildren.
Paul was affectionately known as "Grandpa the Big Truck". A nickname given to him years ago by a toddler that stuck for the rest of his life. He will be sadly missed for his quiet, gentle, and kind spirit.
He is reunited in peace with his wife of more than 40 years, Carolyn F. (Hollobaugh) Hollman. Undoubtedly sharing a warm embrace.
Paul is survived by his step-children Steve Steele (Patti); Randy Steele; and Debbie Fisher; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; Conor, Madison, & Keegan Barry, Corbin & Caden Millet, Kyleigh & Kalyn Fisher.
Family and friends may call at the East Lake Road Alliance Church, 4500 East Lake Road, Harborcreek on Thursday December 12th at 11:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the church with full military honors. Officiating the service is Rev. Leroy Learn. Private interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, 2646 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16508. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
