Reverend Paul Edward Hulsman

Reverend Paul Edward Hulsman, 90, died February 28th, 2022 in Louisville, KY.
He was a science and mathematics teacher in Kentucky and Indiana from 1959 to 2005. He was born in Indianapolis, February 28, 1932, but has called Louisville home since 1950. Paul was a graduate of St. Meinrad High School and College. While pursuing theological studies, he completed graduate work in chemistry and physics at the Catholic University of America, and pursued postgraduate studies in the earth sciences and environmental engineering at several other universities.
Paul was ordained to the Roman Catholic priesthood for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis on May 3rd, 1958. He retired in good standing in 1970 and then returned to active ministry as a retired priest in December 2015. He taught various areas of science and mathematics at Schulte High School in Terre Haute; Cathedral and Chatard High Schools in Indianapolis; and Iroquois, Sacred Heart, and Presentation High Schools in Louisville. He was an adjunct professor of chemistry at IUS from 1992-1993. Paul was a 50 year member emeritus of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the National Model Railroaders Association, Greater Cincinnati Garden Railway Society, and alumni associations of St. Meinrad College and The Catholic University of America. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Louisville, where he was a Eucharistic minister and scripture studies resource person. He celebrated Mass at Mt. Carmel most Mondays.
Paul is predeceased by his brother, Philip J. Hulsman; Therese Hulsman; and brother John Hulsman of LaGrange, KY.
He is survived by his devoted foster son, Richard Lee Waters, of Justice, IL; 6 foster grandchildren whom he loved very much, Brad, JD, Bryan, and Brent Vinson, Geneva and David "Matt" Kuntz, and Justin McIntyre. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Steve and Maggie Hulsman, Paul and Donna Hulsman of LaGrange, David and Mary Hulsman of Charlotte, NC, Ann and Mark Birtles of Louisville, Ashley Hulsman, Tony and Kathleen Huelefeld of Cincinnati, OH, Elizabeth and Michael Small, Pam and Paul Berry, Kathy and Timmy Davis, and Melanie and John Gonsalves; grand-nephews and nieces, Noah, Aaron, Josh, Hannah, Benjamin, Daniel, Leah, Drew, Madison, Jack, Nicole, Sarah, Amanda, Josh, Megan, Kyle, Samantha, Julia, Grace, William, Dalton, Madison, and Austin; sister-in-law, Vickie Hulsman; and godsons, Louis (Tuan) Nguyen and Lin Pham of Louisville.
Reverend Hulsman's funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 8th, 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, March 7th, 2 - 8 p.m. across the street at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Drive, Louisville, KY 40214.
