Mrs Jenkins,Colleen,and Kathy,
I am so very sorry for your lost. I don't get the paper and very rarely do I get on line but I was shocked to see that Mr. Jenkins had passed. From our days at Best Products, Kathy, I have been so very fond of your family. We somehow lost touch but know that your whole family is in my prayers and that I love you so much.

I too was an employee of Mr. Jenkins at the University Personnel Office from 1958-1963, in fact he was my first boss and a kind, wise, and strict teacher. We were a tight, small office, nothing like the mega-departmentof today and he created a good environment. I have always treasured the experience of working for him.
I am glad he did such interesting things in retirement.
Later on I worked at Western Albemarle High School where Tom was one of my favorite students. My sympathy and condolences to the family of a good man and memorable mentor, Paul J. Jenkins. Dorothy

My heart is saddened by the news of Joe’s passing. I did not have the opportunity to get to know Joe on a deep personal level, but he did share with me his feeling on how proud he was of his first grandson, Paul E. Jenkins and most surprisingly, how proud he was of me!
Paul would meet his grandfather Joe at a local Charlottesville coffee shop to enjoy a cup of hazelnut coffee, pumpkin muffins and compare notes about places they visited in Europe before class. One day Paul asked me to join them, we talked and enjoyed our coffee then it came time for Paul to leave. When Paul showed concern about running late to class, Joe kindly offered to give me a ride back to our apartment.
During the trip home, Joe and I exchanged small talk, and we tried to get to know each other better. The ride was short but before I got out of the car, Joe told me, in a serious but kind voice “Paul is doing really well in school and I want to thank you for helping him”. At first, I was really confused, I thought he was talking about my helping Paul with his homework (which I did not). Joe explained that before Paul and I met, he was very concerned for Paul’s future. Joe, with teary eyes, stated how happy he was to see Paul back in school and how proud he is to see Paul with a true desire to succeed. Joe said how grateful he was for Paul to find someone like me and for my move to Charlottesville in support of him. Needless to say, I was very surprised and muted by Joe’s words of gratitude and only replied with a smile.
At that moment, I really felt truly accepted by Paul’s family. My decision to come down to Charlottesville, VA was a no brainer, automatic, and I did it without hesitation or a second thought. Joe recognized the sacrifice I made, even before I realized it, and made sure I knew it did not go un-notice.

My prayers are with the family of
Paul J. Jenkins at this sad time.
In the mid 1950s Mr. Jenkins was my
boss when I worked in the Personnel
Dept. at UvA.
One of his children was born while
I worked there. I believe it was Colleen.
I have always remembered him as a
good boss.
