Paul Walter Kaval, 81, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio and more recently of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024.
Paul was born September 18, 1943, in Poland, when his family immigrated to the United States, from Belarus. He arrived in New York City on March 6, 1951, at the age of seven with his mother Daria, brother Erik and sister Nina.
He met his wife while working at Bel-Air, a summer resort in the Catskill Mountains. Paul and Helen went on to raise and send 5 children to college. Theresa Radil, Katherine Scott, Paula Werner, Daria Kaval and David Kaval.
Paul delighted in nature, was an avid gardener, a prolific coin collector and loving grandfather to his six grandchildren. Basil, Steele, Amelia, Niko, Alex and Fiona.
Paul was predeceased by his mother Daria, father Ladimir, and sisters Hannah and Nina. He is survived by his devoted wife Helen and big brother Erik.
Paul was a member of Mother of God Zyrovicy church in Strongsville, OH, Amboy United Methodist in Conneaut, OH, and Epworth Methodist in Toledo, OH.
Paul was proud to serve his country as a German and Russian Interpreter during the Vietnam War. While stationed at Observation Point Alpha, at the Berlin Wall, he received an award for his dedication. Paul was honorably discharged in 1968, earning an Army Occupation Medal and a National Defense Medal.
In 2011, after more than 43 years of work, Paul retired as a vice president, from Lukjan Metal Products in Conneaut, Ohio, where he and his wife were integral to the growth and success of the company.
Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH on Tuesday December 10 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends will then travel to Cleveland for internment at Riverside Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers please donate to Veterans Hospital or charity of your choice.
