Paul Latimer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home East on Dec. 8, 2025.
Paul Dean Latimer, 81, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1944, in Springfield to Roy and Ethel Latimer. The youngest of seven children, and the only one born in a hospital, Paul grew up surrounded by a large and loving family that shaped his humor, work ethic, and deep faith.
In September 1969, Paul married the love of his life, Shirley Coble. Together they had two wonderful children, Brad and Julie. When the children were young, the family cherished their weekend camping trips and summer getaways, creating memories that remain treasured today.
Paul had a lifelong love of travel, especially along the East Coast and throughout Colorado. He enjoyed a brief period barbering alongside his closest lifelong friend, Bill Felts, before becoming a father. For twenty years, he and Shirley spent winters in Florida which brought new friendships and cherished memories. Paul especially loved the time he spent with his dear friend Ron Duncan, fishing, tackling projects together, and sharing endless laughter.
Known for his quick wit and the way he could make anyone laugh, he brought joy to countless people. But his deepest joy came from his granddaughter, who was the light of his life. Above all, he was a devoted Christian. He cherished singing with two of his siblings, Mary and David, forming a musical trio that brought harmony not only to church services but also to their lives.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ethel Latimer; his brothers John and Roy Jr.; and his sisters Loyce, Fayrene, and Mary. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Latimer; his children, Brad Latimer and Julie Crowe and her husband, Jody; his brother, David Latimer; his granddaughter, Kennedy Flanner, affectionately known as "Sweet Pea"; and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever remember his good-natured orneriness and the joy he brought to every gathering.
In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Paul's honor.
Paul lived a life grounded in faith, family, and friendship. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A visitation for Paul will be held on December 11 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place the following morning at 9:00 a.m., followed by a procession to the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered at 11:00 a.m.
