Paul H. Leonhardt, 79, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Chicago, the son of Paul G. Leonhardt and Elsie (Hersch) Leonhardt. He married Janice Schroeder on October 14, 1973 and she preceded him in death in 2000. Paul married Helen Tuttle on April 14, 2002 and she preceded him in death on April 11, 2023.
Paul is survived by his son: Paul Joseph Leonhardt and wife Dionne of Grayslake, IL; grandson: Paul Henry Leonhardt of Grayslake; a nephew: Tom Paul of California; and a niece: Betty Hoffman of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Paul G. and Elsie Leonhardt, wives: Janice and Helen Leonhardt, and sister: Elaine Paul.
Paul worked as an Engineer for 40 years. He had a passion for building model trains, reading comics and bird watching. Paul was known for his tinkering, mechanics, and fixing anything that was broken. He had a big heart for helping others and had a general love for nature.
He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, where he and Helen attended for many years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Feldman officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the First Draft Grayslake, 250 Center Street, Grayslake, Illinois 60030.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salem Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home 310 North Broadway/ P.O. Box 97 Salem, Illinois 62881, (618)548-1234, who is honored to be of service to the Leonhardt Family.
