Paul Macko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Choice Funerals & Cremations on Jan. 14, 2026.
Paul Stephen Macko, born on February 2, 1948, in Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was the beloved son of the late Stephen and Anne Macko. After graduating from high school, he pursued his passion for storytelling and communication by obtaining a certification from a journalism school in Syracuse.

In 1968, Paul embarked on a remarkable career in Germany with the American Forces Network, where he dedicated over two decades to radio and television. He began as a disc jockey, broadcaster, and news broadcaster, steadily working his way up to the esteemed position of station manager. His time overseas was marked by a deep commitment to bringing entertainment and information to those serving far from home.

In 1991, Paul returned to the United States and continued his dedication to service by creating training films for the Navy, a role in which he excelled and found great fulfillment.

Beyond his professional life, Paul was a man of varied interests. He had a profound love for traveling, savoring good food, and immersing himself in music. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his devoted wife of 50 years, Helga Ingrid Macko, who survives him and was his constant companion and source of strength.

Paul's legacy is one of dedication, love, and resilience. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Paul's memory.
