Paul Julius Meehan Sr.
March 28, 1947 – Dec 20, 2024
Paul J. Meehan, 77, of
Lexington, MA unexpectedly passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024.
Paul was born on March 28, 1947 in Cambridge, MA. He is survived by Margaret Meehan, their four children and eleven grandchildren - daughter, Maureen Laub, her husband Jim, and children Madeline, Brady, and Olivia of Hollis, NH, son Paul Jr., his wife Monique, and daughters Isabella and Makaila of Groton, MA, daughter Darlene Kopesky, her husband Ed and daughters Abby and Holly of Mahtomedi, MN; and daughter Christine Salinas, husband Ramiro and sons Austin, Cameron, Peyton, and Gavin of San Antonio, TX.
Paul was the second of seven children raised by Charles and Helen Meehan and is survived by his siblings Ronald Meehan, Karen Meehan, Linda Donohue, Debbie Gray, and Mary Ellen Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Doris Williams.
Paul enlisted into the US Navy in 1965. He served valiantly in the Vietnam Conflict on two deployments. In 1966, he served primarily on the USS Renville as a diesel engineer and from 1969-1970 he was a river boat engineer where he was "primarily running the rivers of Nam in the Northern province." He was and remained a patriot of the United States for his entire life. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his service in the military he used the GI-bill to get his college degree and then worked at Polaroid for 30 years in the security department. He played softball, and loved to hike, fish, bike, study history, genealogy, and was a veracious reader. He also coached many of his kids' sports teams, and was AWANA Commander at the church youth program.
After retirement, in 2003, Paul was chosen to lead Jo Hir Publications Inc., Good News Hungarian Literature Mission because of his outgoing and passionate personality. Paul was eager to give his all and did his best to learn the Hungarian language even with his thick Bostonian accent (becoming quite proficient well into his 50s). He became the President, Treasurer, and heart of the Jo Hir ministry helping to translate various types of literature into Hungarian, and preaching and teaching the gospel of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at prisons, orphanages, assemblies, and churches in Hungary, Germany, Ukraine, Romania, the USA, and other locations. Sharing the Gospel in any way possible to any and everyone was his passion. He loved using illusions, distributing tracts, and talking about Jesus. He split his time living in Budapest, Hungary and
Lexington, MA. He was a beloved dad and nagypapa, loved by many, and a dedicated servant of God. Well done, good and faithful servant.
