Paul L. Mendes, 59, a lifelong resident of New Bedford, Massachusetts, passed away on August 21, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital. Born to the late Harriet Mendes and George Grovell, Paul lived a life defined by love, generosity, and creativity. His quiet strength and unwavering devotion to those he held dear were the hallmarks of his character.
Paul was the embodiment of selflessness, always placing his family at the center of his world. His love knew no bounds; he was a source of comfort and a guiding light to those fortunate enough to know him. Whether offering a listening ear, a helping hand, or sharing grounding life lessons, Paul's presence was a constant source of support and affection. His devotion to family and friends was evident at every moment.
His two daughters, Shaina Lee Andrade and Brianna Marie Mendes, were the heart of his life, and he took immense pride in being their father. His guiding principle to them was that "life is not a journey, it's a destination", a reflection of his favorite life motto. Paul was a passionate sports statistician, the person everyone turned to for stats and game insights. Beyond his deep compassion for sports, Paul found joy and peace in the world of art. Drawing was not just a hobby, it was his sanctuary.
Paul is survived by his loving siblings: sisters Kim Mendes, Charlene Mendes, and Wendy Mendes; and brothers David Mendes and Gregory Mendes, all of New Bedford. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth Mendes and Brian Mendes; sisters Terry Mendes, Dawn Mendes, Karen Mendes, Sandra Mendes, and Kelly Mendes; and his dear cousins Rebecca Mendes and Marjorie Mendes.
Paul leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed, and we are forever grateful for his offering of his time, his heart, and his strength without hesitation!
