Paul Alexander Mitchell, age 91 of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2025. He was born on October 21, 1933 in Flint, Michigan. He was married to his beloved late wife Barbara of La Feria, Texas, on March 1, 1952 in Montgomery, Alabama. Paul was the youngest of eight children born to John and Euphemia Mitchell formerly of Kirkcaldy Fife, Scotland. He graduated from Flint Technical High School in June 1951 and graduated with honors from the University of Texas, Permian Basin in 1976. He served in the US Air Force, Air Weather Service from 1951 to 1960 and was then employed by General Motors AC Manufacturing until 1967. Later that year, he was employed by the National Weather Service (formerly the Weather Bureau) and worked in Flint, Michigan; Kotzebue, Alaska; King Salmon, Alaska; Key West, Florida; and Odessa, Texas; before being transferred to the National Weather Service Central Regional Headquarters, in Kansas City, Missouri in 1979. In 1978 Paul was voted Federal Employee of the Year by the Permian Basin Federal Executive Association. In 1988 he transferred to Austin, Texas and retired in 1989 after serving 31 years in the Weather Service. Mr. Mitchell and his wife Barbara moved to San Antonio in 1998 to be near their children and grandchildren. Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Barbara, son Donald Mitchell (survived by wife Cynthia) and grandson Joseph Mitchell (survived by wife Rochelle). He is survived by daughter Pamela (George) Mays of San Antonio. Grandchildren Colonel Kenneth Rockwell (Marna), Victoria Mays Elyea (Brent), David Mitchell (Jessica). Great grandchildren, Emma Rockwell Benadof(Nicholas), Paige Rockwell, Alexis Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, Lillie Mitchell and Paul Mitchell. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
