Paul David Mullins, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this world peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Independence, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 15, 1936, in Elkhorn City, Kentucky, and lived a life that truly embodied the spirit of a dedicated family man and an engaging individual.
Paul's adventurous and robust personality became a hallmark of his character, marked by his larger-than-life demeanor and an inexhaustible collection of stories and jokes. Known affectionately as the "meanest man in Kenton County," he possessed a playful sense of humor that endeared him to many. Beyond his quirks, Paul made notable contributions throughout his life, not only as an avid hunter and fisherman but also as a passionate supporter of the Cincinnati Reds, with a commitment to never missing a game. He was also known for his pool shooting abilities.
Paul's educational journey is highlighted by his remarkable achievement of breaking the state record for pole vaulting using a bamboo pole during high school. His dedication extended beyond the athletic realm; he served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Caloosahatchee during the Cold War, traversing the Arctic Circle and visiting numerous foreign countries, experiences that shaped his perspectives and stories.
Through his long-standing role as president of the Moonlite Hunting and Fishing Club for 25 years, Paul fostered camaraderie and a love for the outdoors among fellow enthusiasts. His commitment to conservation earned him the distinguished title of Wildlife Conservationist of the Year from the state of Kentucky in 1980, a testament to his dedication to preserving the natural world. Paul selflessly raised money every Christmas for the Children's Home of Devou Park. He also threw the most memorable birthday party every March for over 50 years.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Julia Mae Mullins (nee Miller), who stood by him through all of life's adventures. He leaves behind his devoted son, Paul Kevin Mullins; his cherished grandchildren, David Wayne (Keyah) Mullins and Ariel Devin Mullins; and his precious great-grandchildren, Aizlynn Mae Mullins, Ezekiel David Mullins, Lacey Lynn Mullins, Maxson Belser, and Kelijah Hensley. Paul is also survived by his brothers, John Tilton Mullins, George Washington (Lisa) Mullins, Jr., and Stevie Jo Mullins; as well as a host of other family members and friends who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Washington Mullins; his mother, Blanch Mullins (nee Spivey); his sister, Mary Lou Carlise; and by his children, David Jeffrey Mullins and Jennifer Lynn Mullins. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart, and their memories will be woven into the stories he shared.
Family, friends, and loved ones are invited to celebrate Paul’s life during a service in the chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger, Kentucky, on November 7, 2025, at 12:00 PM.
As we remember Paul David Mullins, we reflect on the profound impact he had on all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and commitment to family and friends will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
