With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Thomas, a cherished husband, father, and friend, who left us on November 3, 2025. Born into abject poverty, John’s journey was marked by remarkable accomplishments and an indomitable spirit.
At the age of seventeen, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the Navy. Following his military service, John pursued his education with fervor, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Miami University. His passion for sports and fitness led him to create a lasting legacy as the founder of "CINCINNATI GYMNASTICS," an endeavor he launched in the 1970s that continues to thrive today. Throughout his career, John had the privilege of training many Olympic athletes, instilling in them the same dedication and perseverance that characterized his own life.
In addition to his pioneering work in gymnastics, John embarked on a successful career in fundraising, where he made a significant impact for over two decades. He then transitioned to his final venture, "RIDE SMART," demonstrating a flair for innovation and entrepreneurship that endeared him to all who knew him.
John’s talents extended beyond business; his keen eye for architecture and design transformed one of Cold Spring, Kentucky's most historic homes into a magnificent showcase. Known for his vibrant spirit, John was a devoted enthusiast of baseball, tennis, and golf, proudly supporting his beloved Bengals.
Above all, John was a gentle soul with a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His compassion knew no bounds, as he never passed by a homeless person without offering assistance.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Sabra Thomas, and a daughter from a previous marriage, Kelly Thomas, along with several beloved grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his cherished son.
As we celebrate John’s extraordinary life, we remember the warmth he brought to our lives and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and dedication. May his legacy of love and generosity continue to inspire us all.
