Paul Sloan Nesbitt, 76, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on December 15, 1949 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late William H. and Margaret (Caughey) Nesbitt.

Paul grew up on his family farm just outside Barnesville, where he planted his roots. He graduated Barnesville High School in 1968, during which time he was the president of the FFA. After high school he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, where he specialized in communications. Upon his return he worked as an orderly for Barnesville Hospital where he met the love of his life, Sandra. Paul enjoyed having a work life on the road, including hauling coal, contracting and delivering for Fed Ex, and providing patient transport to medical appointments.

Making new friends was second nature to Paul his entire life. During his school years, he was known to stand up to bullies to protect others and stand up for what is right. He was remembered as always smiling and laughing, and showing kindness to every person he met. His heart of gold shone through him, and would light up a room.

Paul was an avid fisherman, enjoyed going on walks, sowing his flower beds, feeding the birds and deer on his property, and admired and studied the uniqueness of coins. Paul loved listening to music and would be the first one on and last one off the dance floor, as long as the music “had a beat.” But mostly, he loved his family, children, and grandchildren more than anything else.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of forty four years, Sandra K. (Ulrich) Nesbitt on August 29, 2024; brother-in-law, Thomas Hoover; and niece Lea.

Paul is survived by his daughters, Laura Beth Nesbitt and Amy (Brett) McMasters; grandchildren, Lucas Clark, Ethan Clark, Kaelyn Koch, Addison Koch, Liam Koch, Kaitlyn McMasters, and Carson McMasters; sister, Susan (Nesbitt) Hoover; brother, Bill (Susan) Nesbitt; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Honoring Paul’s wishes, he selflessly donated his body to the Body Donor Program at Ohio University, for medical education and research, where a later memorial service will be held for his close family and friends.

Paul’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Guernsey and his nurse Heidi for the amazing care they provided.
