Paul Wayne Pool, age 86 of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025 with family at his side. He is now at rest in the presence of His Savior Jesus. He was born in Van Zandt County, Texas in 1938 and was the only child of the late Lucille Weeden Pool and Elmer E. Pool.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; Anna Tunnell Pool, the love of his life; daughter Kay (Don) Shubeck of Lakeland, Tennessee, son Roger (Rhonda) Pool of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and MaryBeth Mansfield of Benton, Arkansas; Six grandchildren, Phillip (Hannah} Pool, Keith Shubeck, Chelsea (Jacob) Gray, Conner (Whitney) Shubeck, Chandler (Haley) Mansfield, and Andrew Pool; Six great grandchildren: Lacey and Levi Mansfield, Stella and Scarlett Gray, and Penelope and Hendrix Pool.
Paul was a 1957 graduate of Canton High School. In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Tunnell. Together, they worked to put him through college at Southern Methodist University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering with high honors in 1962.
He began his career as a civil engineer with the Federal Highway Administration; his 31 years of public service were joyfully fulfilled in California, New Mexico, D.C., Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and ended with his retirement in Louisiana in 1994. He then started his own engineering consulting firm (PWP Inc.) where he was project manager for the design and construction of the River Rail Streetcar system that serves North Little Rock and Little Rock and assisted the Louisiana Department of Transportation with repair and costs associated with hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Paul modeled a strong work ethic for his children and grandchildren.
Paul considered his family a blessing and a joy. He was very proud of all of them. They were the center and focus of his life. His family took several vacations to their timeshare in Gulf Shores and celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversary with the family at the beach. Paul and Anna took each of their grandchildren on a special trip.
He and Anna went on several missionary trips with Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church. While a member there, he designed the Grace Memorial Garden. Paul was a compassionate man who had a servant's heart, especially for those who are marginalized. He also volunteered his time at a battered women's shelter in Saline County, served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Saline County, served on and chaired the public works committee in the Village, was a member of the Lion's Club, and served on the Finance Committee at Anna and his home church North Little Rock First United Methodist Church.
On Saturday, March 15 at 2:00 pm, there will be a celebration of life conducted by Pastor Sara Bayles Charlton at First United Methodist Church of NLR followed by visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock. We appreciate all the prayers for Paul and our family and offer sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing staff of Fox Ridge of NLR (especially Melissa), Baptist Little Rock SICU, and Hospice Home Care for the love and care they provided for Paul.

March 11, 2025

My sincere condolences, prayers and love go out to Anna and the family. Paul Wayne was a special man who was my back door neighbor and classmate in Canton. He and Anna stayed in touch throughout the years, and I valued each visit with them. To say I am heartbroken is an understatement. Those of us who knew Paul Wayne have lost a dear friend. Godspeed and rest peacefully.
