Paul Porter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home Inc on Feb. 26, 2026.
Paul Roger Porter

1955-2026

"Where the water is clear, the woods are wide, and love lives forever - there you will find him."

Paul Roger Porter, age 70, of Catlettsburg, Ky, passed peacefully away with fond memories of his dear family on his mind, on February 25, 2026.

Paul was born in the fall of 1955, on October 12th. He was the blessing of the late Walter Everett and Eleanor Waugh Porter. Paul graduated from Boyd County High School in 1973 and joined the United States Army to serve and protect the country, landscapes, and people he loved. He served honorably until his discharge as a SPEC. 4 Specialist. Paul provided for his every growing family as Superintendent at A.K. Steel prior to his retirement.

To say that Paul loved being outdoors is an understatement. Paul found his joy out in the woods of Eastern Kentucky. Maybe in the sounds of nature or the cool breeze that blew that brought him so much peace. He was an excellent hunter and enjoyed the sport immensely. He was decorated marksman when it came to Archary. His talent with the bow earned him a Gold Medal in the Blue Grass State Games and many more awards throughout the years. Paul also loved being on the water fishing, there was just something about the fight of a big fish on a line that filled him with excitement. Paul's Heaven was out there on the landscape that God created for him to enjoy.

Paul's love for hunting and fishing was only matched by his love for his family. Paul's dedication to them was unwavering. He was a true of example of what a family man should be. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. Paul's grandchildren were the light of his life; they sparked a love in his heart that was like no other. Paul's passing leaves a void in the lives of those that were blessed enough to know him. His family and friends take great comfort knowing that he has settled into his little piece of Heaven where the water is clear, the fish are always biting, and there is wild game like he has never seen.

Left behind to celebrate his life is his beloved wife, Brenda Johnson Porter, his sons, Paul Christopher Porter of Catlettsburg, KY , Brandon Kyle Porter and his wife Nikki of Ashland, KY, and Aaron Roger Porter also of Catlettsburg, six precious grandchildren, Courtlyn Porter, McKinleigh "Mac"Porter, Elias Porter, Casie Porter, Bella Porter, and Emma Porter , one brother Dan Porter of Austin Texas, and one nephew Jeromy Rucker of Catlettsburg, KY. Also surviving are the many friends he made along the way.

In addition to his parents, Paul is enjoying a reunion with one brother Walter Porter, and his sister Joyce Porter, and one niece Dreama Darlene Rucker.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home, located at 2702 Panola Street, Catlettsburg, KY. Friends and family may call between the hours of 3pm - 5pm.
