Paul J. Short, Sr., known lovingly by most as "Bruiser," of Franklin, MA passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Somerville, MA to the late Joseph and Stacia (Racki) Short, he grew up in Franklin. An all-star athlete, in high school, he found joy in his life both playing and watching football, basketball, baseball, hockey, softball, and golf. He spent many weekends, in his adult life, playing in softball and golf tournaments, with friends.
Bruiser believed that "you should choose life before life chooses you," and concrete chose him – a trade he worked successfully in for over 50 years.
Bruiser is survived by his partner, Judy Brogan-Forrester, son Paul Jr. and his wife April of Scituate, MA, daughter Julie of Sarasota, FL, and son Greg and his wife Angela of Pomfret Center, CT. He was big brother to Robert Short and wife Dee of Fairbury, NE, Kathleen Radzikowski of Northampton, MA, Rosemary Stonkus of Lynn, MA and Joanne Thackaberry and husband James of Douglas, MA.
Bruiser, affectionately known as Grandpa, will be missed by his grandchildren, Nick, Haley, Katelyn, Abigail, Gabrielle, Elizabeth and Allison. He is now Guardian Angel over his grandchildren and his beloved nieces and nephews: Josh Short and Mark Indre; Jenny and Dante Garrido and their children Alex, Max, and Cora; Elena and Mary Kate Frodema and their children Grant and Lennon; Zachary and Tyler Stonkus; and Jacob, Mitchell, Nicole and Natalie Thackaberry.
He will be lovingly remembered by all that knew him including his Elks family and fellow cement heads.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation service that will be held at Charles F. Oteri and Son Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., Franklin MA, on Thursday, October 24, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm with a brief service following at 7:00 pm.
There will be a brief burial service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Franklin, Friday, October 25, at 9:00 am.
