I worked with Paul at Brown Creek and we became fast friends. Even though I stopped working over 10 years ago, Paul and I remained in touch and saw each other at least once a year. I was devastated to hear of his passing. Paul was very special and I will never forget him. Rest in power my friend. I will miss you Much love from Gerry Wilson

A Dear Coworker Sgt.-Lt.Paul Smith Was A Friend, A Comedian, A Awesome Supervisor, Chef, Spiritualist, & A Great All Around Man. Sgt. Smith Was Caring, Thoughtful, Funny, & A Honest Person All The Time. Paul Cooked For His Officers Good Yummy Food, Worked Along Side Them & Helped With All The Tasks That We Had To Accomplish During Our Shift At LCI-ACI-BCCI Facilities Each An Every Night. Me An Sgt. Smith Would Go Out To Eat & Go Shopping During Training. We Laughed So Much To His Jokes & Would Laugh When He Fell Asleeep At Time & Then Sometimes We Would All Take A Nap Together LOL. Yes Another Angel Has Got Their Wings. I Salute You Sgt. & Thank You For Your Service. A Job Well Done Mighty Servant. We Wanted You Here But God Needed You More. Please Take A Bow. You Will Be Truly Missed Sir. Your Smile Would Brighten Any Room. Condolences & Sympathies To The Family. Blessings, Peace, Love , & Joy . Love Love

We both worked with Sergeant Smith (Paul) at Lanesboro Correctional Facility. SGT Smith, always professional with us both of us and mission oriented with our very serious work, at one of the most dangerous places in all of North Carolina. A place with a revolving door of employees stating on their way out "not for me", "to dangerous for me", "how do y´all do this, passing through those locked Sally-Ports each day... it´s like your incarcerated yourself?" SGT Smith... mentally tough! Serious about the safety of coworkers! How many of us went home without being injured from those dangerously violent inmates; also, how many Inmates who made a mistake (as we all have made mistakes) but their mistake placed them in prison that SGT Smith manage fairly and equitably while they served their sentence and prepared for their chance to start over again. The nature of our work... so complex and stressful with very little appreciation, fanfare or gratitude... the quiet professional... constant... steady... faithful... Gods reward to you Paul Smith... man who deserves so many crowns.., life of service to many and especially to those in wretched, difficult places where most are incapable of walking in this life... certainly a valley in the shadow of death... amen. our sympathies to the family Gods mercy and Grace to to y´all.
