Paul Elwood Steich, age 101, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, with family by his side.
Paul was born in Hanover on March 25, 1923. He was the son of Allen Elwood & Esta (Sholl) Steich.
He is survived by his children: Linda (Steich) Danner & husband Terry, Jack Steich & wife Peggy (Watson) Steich, Jill (Steich) Hempfing & husband Jim, and Daughter-in-Law Sharon (Lippy) Steich. He is also survived by grandchildren: Allen Steich & wife Jennifer, Evonne Steich & Bryan Somerville, Brandon Danner & wife Wendy (Beidel) Danner, Tasha (Danner) Byrd & Jesse Bitzer, Jordan Hempfing & wife Joy, Lauren (Hempfing) Osladil & husband Jonathan, Jacob Paul Steich & Jennifer Plavcan, and Brianna (Steich) Lyles & husband Blake. He enjoyed 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris of nearly 76 years, and two sons: Charles E. Steich & Russell A. Steich and his only brother John Jacob Steich.
In his early years he helped his family work several farms in Adams & York counties. Paul proudly served his country in the Army in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. During his time in the Army he attained the rank of Sergeant and he received several medals and commendations while serving his country. He was recently recognized on the floor of the PA House of Representatives, local organizations & the World War II Museum in Gettysburg. Until the very end he was honored and proud of his military service.
Upon returning to Hanover he was an upholsterer at House Of Hanover, then became a machinist at New Way Packaging, and finished his career as a machine operator at Hanover Lantern. After all of his careers and accomplishments he just considered himself a simple farm boy.
His hobbies included woodworking, playing games and cards with friends and family, and he was a Civil War enthusiast. He loved the Lord, his Bible and serving in many capacities throughout the years.
He attended Otterbein United Brethren Church, Calvary Bible Church, and most recently Hanover First Church of God.
A special heartfelt thank you to all the caregivers at Cross Keys Village Personal Care and LHM Hospice who lovingly went above and beyond to care for him.
Friends and family will be received at Hanover First Church of God on Saturday, January 4th, from 10:00 – 11:00 with a service to follow at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be given to Hanover First Church of God; 600 Fairview Dr.; Hanover, PA 17331 or the Good Samaritan Fund of The Brethren Home Community; 2990 Carlisle Pike; New Oxford, PA 17350

I am so sorry to the whole Steich family for the loss of one of the most wonderful men you could ever meet. He was truly one of a kind that is very hard to find these days.
I am hoping that Jill and Linda remember one time after a big meal with the family how we kept throwing the fruit cups back in the water after Paul had already washed them It took awhile but Paul finally ask us how many of those fruit cups did we have and we laughed and told him what we were doing. He laughed and just kept washing the dishes.
I loved that man and am so thankful that I had the pleasure of knowing him.He will definitely be missed by many.
