Paul F Sullivan Jr, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Born in Worcester to Paul F. and Helen M. (Spillane), Paul graduated from North High School and Worcester Industrial Technical Institute (WITI). After marrying his loving wife of 61 years, Judy, Paul trained in the Army Infantry at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Paul went on to Head Quarters Company, 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry of the Massachusetts Army National Guard rising to the rank of E-4 Acting Sergeant. Paul and Judy lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury to raise their daughters.

Paul began his career as a computer technician at Raytheon, continuing on as a computer programmer at Thom McCann’s in Worcester. He quickly gained experience and knowledge with various tech companies from Data General/Digital to EMC Corp and finally retiring from UMass in Worcester.

While growing up, Paul, his parents, and younger brother spent summers on the Cape, and he went on to continue his love of the shore with Judy, their children, and later his grandchildren. A world class sandcastle builder, Paul also enjoyed fishing, go-cart riding, and reading a good book, all while trying to invent the perfect Bloody Mary with his best friend and mentor, Jim. An avid reader, Paul’s interests varied from true crime to history, novels to biographies. As such, he loved to share the interesting tidbits he discovered with his friends and relatives. Music also held a special place in Paul’s heart. His eclectic taste ran from jazz to rock, and everything in between. He could be seen sporting his favorite pair of red “Chucks” and a funny t-shirt, while cracking a series of jokes that he kept in his repertoire or performing “The Disappearing Leg Trick.”

Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith A (Hull), his daughters, Cheryl A. and her husband, Dan Hastings, Jr. of Auburn, and Heather M and her husband Corey York of Rutland. The apples of Paul’s eye were his beloved granddaughters, Jaime Hurley and her wife, Stephanie Meyer of Worcester, Shannon and her husband, Erik Rauh of Rutland, Danielle Hastings and her partner Paul Flury of Worcester, Elizabeth and her husband, William Mehigan of Fitchburg, Delaney and her husband, Bailey Dionne of Pepperell, and Mallory York of New Ipswich, N.H. Paul was also blessed with his great-grandchildren, Owen and Garrett Rauh of Rutland, and Sawyer and Taytum Dionne of Pepperell. Paul leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins, and he is predeceased by his younger brother John J Sullivan.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family on Wednesday, September 24th, from 4-7 p.m. at Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St, Worcester. His celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
