Paul Wayne Swihart

Paul Wayne Swihart, 60, of North Liberty, Iowa, passed away at his house in the early morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1964, in Davenport, Iowa, to Carl and Mildred (Karnes) Swihart.

Paul was a trained paramedic and worked for many years as a perimetrist in the University of Iowa Ophthalmology Department. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a proud member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Paul was also active in the Boy Scouts and found great joy in serving his community and church.

He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, and his happiest moments were spent attending the events and activities of his beloved grandchildren.

Affectionately known as "Goofy" by his family and close friends, Paul was cherished for his humor, calm presence, and ability to find joy in life's simplest moments.

Paul is survived by his wife of 32 years, Brenda; his children Melanie (Josh) Harrison, Tara Stewart, Jaime (Skye) Bergeson, and Zachary Swihart; and his grandchildren Lauren, Alexander, and Matthew Ruiz-Stewart, Nash and Hazel Harrison, and Iva and Millie Bergeson. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Swihart and Linda (Patrick) Bohlander, along with many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 28, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City, visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the service at 3:00 p.m. and a light reception following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Swihart Family in care of Brenda Swihart. Paul had numerous causes that meant a lot to him and the family would like to donate the proceeds to those organizations.
