Paul Douglas Tipton

Paul Douglas "Doug" Tipton, age 74, of Flag Pond, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Erwin, Doug is a son of the late Billy George and Barbara Jean (Williams) Tipton. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. When he was able, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was happiest when he was picking at someone and making them laugh. In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Fredia Joyce (Shelton) Tipton; one son, Stephen Douglas Tipton; uncle, Eugene Williams; and aunts: Christa Lee Arnold (Andrew) and Revonda Cooper.
Paul Douglas Tipton has left behind to cherish his memory: daughter: Alanna Miles (George Tabor); grandchildren: William "Billy" Tipton, Kelsie Miles, Skyra Carver, Brionna Milsap, and Hildon Tipton; great-grandchildren: Tomas Coffey, Aden Coffey, Josef Coffey, and Kassiani Miles; brother: Robert Lee Tipton; sister: Sharon Welch (Phillip); uncles: Phillip Dwight Williams (Jo Anne Engle) and Ronald Williams (Sue); and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Paul Douglas "Doug" Tipton, in a celebration of his life to be held at 6 :00 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025, in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 pm on Monday, December 29, 2025 and will continue until the hour of service at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Tipton Family Cemetery, 779 Rector Laurel Road, Flag Pond. Those attending the committal service are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 12:30 pm on Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from among family and friends.
