Paul L. Triemstra – Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend
Paul Triemstra dedicated himself to his wife, children, grandchildren, family members, clients, and countless friends. Throughout his life, those who knew him benefited from his wisdom, kindness, compassion, loyalty, generosity, and guidance. He believed in "do the right thing," and he lived it every day, and in every situation-eminently trustworthy, honorable, charitable, and reliable. He died peacefully on November 18, surrounded by his family.
Paul Triemstra was born in Holland, Michigan on September 20, 1943, to Bert and Mary (Van Dyken) Triemstra. Of Dutch descent, the virtues of modesty, tolerance, and justice for all were instilled in him from a young age, and he was also taught to value education, hard work, and self-reliance. His family moved to Dearborn, and he graduated from Edsel Ford High School where he played basketball, football, ran track and played trumpet. He received his undergraduate degree from Calivn College, his law degree from Wayne State Law School, and an MBA from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
He met Doris Sobczak while at Wayne State, and they married on December 5th, 1969. During law school, he worked at Chrysler Corporation, and after receiving his Juris Doctorate he worked for Fisher Franklin & Ford, Bromberg Robinson Shapiro & Cohn, and finally Butzel Long where he spent over 30 years as an Estate Planning and Corporate Probate attorney.
Paul was devoted to his family. He and Doris were married 53 years. He was father to Todd (Renee), Scott, and Ryan (Aliya), and grandfather to Lauryn, Katelyn, Annika, Olivia, Milana, Ryan and Kenzo. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bruce and Glenn.
Faith and conviction were incredibly important to him, he was a devoted Roman Catholic and believed in living and embodying his Christian values.
He was an extremely avid and talented golfer, a member of Oakhurst Country Club in Clarkston, Michigan and Bonita National Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. He loved watching University of Michigan Wolverine Football, and he greatly enjoyed watching NFL football and participating in Fantasy Football leagues.
Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy (between Maple and Big Beaver) Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 2-8 PM.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, November 22, 2023 – 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4580 N. Adams Rd., Troy. Visitation at church beings Wednesday at 10:30 AM.
