In Memory of Paul Thomas Walker (1925 – 2025)
Paul Thomas Walker, 99 of Las Vegas, NV passed away in his home on Monday, January 6, 2025. Paul was born October 6, 1925, in Brooklyn New York to Paul and Ethel Walker (deceased). He grew up in St. Albans, Queens NY with his sister, Vivian. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943 to fight in World War II, receiving his high school diploma from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1944 in absentia. He was a pilot trainee and then his class was drafted into gunnery school. He became a ball turret gunner and flew in over 25 combat missions before receiving an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant in 1945, with 3 Bronze Stars among other medals. After returning from the war, he worked as a lithographer and photographer for the New York Times. He married Mildred (Micki) Bubnell in 1945 at age 19, and they had two sons, Steven and David Walker (deceased). They divorced in 1959.
He married Pauline (deceased) in 1959 in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. They moved from Long Island NY to Palos Verdes, California with their blended family, his two sons, and her two children, Butch (deceased) and Jacqueline Sogorka. There, he and Pauline attended UCLA Real Estate School and then together, they opened Walker & Associates Inc. They had two daughters, Dale Walker and Maria Walker (deceased). They resided in Rancho Palos Verdes and then Newport Beach CA before moving to Las Vegas, NV in 1996 where he continued working in real estate until reluctantly retiring from the career he loved in 2017 at age 91.
Paul was a great cook, an avid gardener, and he loved to entertain, dance, read, travel, and share meals and stories with friends and family. Paul will be remembered for his dedication and love for his wife, Pauline, his real estate career, and for his kindness, generosity, his fondness for storytelling, good food, and fashion, as well as for his determination to live independently. He will be missed deeply and remembered fondly by his daughters, Dale and Jacquie, his sister-in-law, Adele Sogorka; niece, Karen Goldey-Houlihan (John), sons-in-law, John Colombo and Dewey Stickley, his niece, Kathleen Wilcox (William) and nephew, Richard Slattery, daughter-in-law, Rosie Sogorka; his grandchildren, Lisa Roehling, Tamara Varner (Dane), Dante Paul Colombo, and Paulina Marie Colombo; grand-nephews, Robert (Tracy) and Brian (Mimi) Goldey; two great-nephews; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Paul also leaves his dear caregiver, Lakieda Hurst, and her daughters Tamira, Miracle, and Layla, as well as many good friends and neighbors.
