Paul D. Whitney, 83, passed peacefully on May 22, 2024, in the Milford Regional Medical Center. Born on December 19, 1940, in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, to the late Donald A. Whitney and Marcella (Richardson) Callahan.
He had been a resident of Uxbridge for the past 10 years and had previously lived in Florida for several years and in Burrillville, RI. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Paul took great pride in truck driving his entire career and worked many years for Hood Enterprises in South Uxbridge. Later, Paul's trucking journey took him from the idyllic landscapes of New England to the bustling roads of across America for another several years.
His work ethic and dedication to his profession were matched only by his love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Duquet) Whitney; his children, Jade Whitney of Arizona, Eric Whitney of Florida, and Jerilyn Whitney Roy and her husband Bruce of Millville; his sister Norma Richardson of Rhode Island; his half-siblings, Joseph Irons, Paula Boucher, Doris Irons, Ralph Irons, Allen Irons, George (Skip) Whitney, David Whitney, Shawn Whitney and Lewis Whitney: and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The joys of his life were further multiplied by his cherished grandchildren, Karisa Magliozzi, Michael Whitney, Alexandra Whitney, Cash Roy, and Bruce Roy, Jr. and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his half-brother, Thomas Irons.
In his earlier days, Paul enjoyed hot rods and cars. He had also been a 4H Club leader. Later, he found solace in the serene setting of his mini farm in Rhode Island, a testament to his appreciation for life's simple pleasures which may have included an occasion burnout or doughnut in the driveway.
Paul's legacy is one of love, kindness, and thoughtful attention to the needs and happiness of others. His passing leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him, and his memory will be treasured forever as a guiding light of warmth and generosity.
Funeral services are private at a later date in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
