Paul Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 27, 2022.
Paul Edward Williams, of Austin, Texas, was born August 27, 1937, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 24, 2022, having lived a life of service and stewardship, faithful to his God, church, and family. Paul was in born in Ada, Oklahoma, to Henry West Williams and Gladys Othelia Williams, the fifth of six boys, and the last of the Williams brothers. At an early age, his family moved to Amarillo, Texas, a state that he would come to love and call home. Some years later, Paul would meet his bride-to-be, Geraldine Mercer, in Amarillo, after having served his country in the United States Navy, from 1955-1959.
Paul and Jerry married in 1966 and moved to the Anderson Mill neighborhood of North Austin with his young family in the early 1980s. He previously served with Kiwanis International and as a deacon at Anderson Mill Baptist Church, and most recently was a greeter for Sunday services and worked the Prayer Station on Saturdays. Paul's favorite thing to do was serve others and help anyone who was in need in any way he could. He prided himself on the care he took of his family and those he loved. As his pastor, Rod Minor, once said, "Paul would follow you into hell with a water gun if that's what was needed." No one loved a "Dad joke" more than Paul and no one laughed at the ones he told more than he did himself.
Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jerry, and his three children: his eldest, Shelly, his middle, Lori & son-in-law, Adam, and his youngest, Richard. He is also survived by two very beloved pups, Bella and Daisy. He has one surviving sister-in-law, Gloria, two nephews, Randy and Russell, and one niece, Natalie.
Paul's memorial service will be held at Anderson Mill Baptist Church this Friday, October 28, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will also be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills on Saturday, October 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Paul will be interred at IOOF Cemetery in Gonzales, Texas, on Monday, October 31. In lieu of flowers, the Family requests that donations be made at guidestone.org to support retired Southern Baptist ministers, workers, and their widows through the ministry Mission: Dignity.
He will be greatly missed, for his loving heart and willingness to serve reached many people.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenchapelofthehills.com for the Williams family.
