Paul Barranger passed away in
Austin, Texas on February 6, 2026 at the age of 68 after a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio, at 11 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to Mass at St. Ambrose Church.
Paul was born on June 30, 1957, in Washington D.C. He is preceded in death by parents John and Elizabeth (Betty) Barranger (Sheehy). Paul is survived by sisters Ann (Mahmood) Ahmed of Medina, Linda (Thomas) Sulkowski of Valley City, Theresa (Robert) Johnson of South Lebanon, Mary Beth Barranger of Lakewood, and Melissa (Jeff) Mathys of Brecksville, brothers Christopher (Isabel) Barranger of
Whitmore Lake, MI, and Gregory (Rachelle) Barranger of
Brighton, MI. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews and a grand-niece.
Paul grew up as the oldest of eight children in Fairview Park, Ohio. He was greatly admired by all his siblings. As a teen, he was always eager to help neighbors with washing cars, shoveling snow, yard work and other projects. After high school, he graduated from Cuyahoga Community College with an Associate of Applied Business in Data Processing. For the first 16 years of his career, he worked for Computer Sciences Corporation, doing systems analysis and database administration. Paul had assignments working abroad in Japan and Saudi Arabia. In 2001, Paul took an educational sabbatical by attending Louisiana Tech University. He enrolled in the Professional Aviation curriculum and earned a student pilot certificate with instrument rating. After returning to Texas, Paul worked in production and customer service for the remainder of his career.
Since 1986, Paul's permanent home has been in a suburb of
Austin, Texas where he lived a private life, committed to his work. He attended Saint Louis King of France Catholic Church in Austin.
Outside of work Paul enjoyed weight-lifting, fixing cars, visiting family and adventuring abroad to places spanning from Australia to Thailand to British Columbia making him an international man of mystery. Paul was close to his parents and siblings who especially enjoyed his company during his annual Ohio visits for Thanksgiving, Christmas, weddings, birthdays, college graduations and anniversaries.
Paul was a generous man with a strong work ethic. He will be deeply missed as a beloved and unique brother and uncle. He will be remembered as man of deep faith.
