Paul “Pinky” Winter, age 77, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the afternoon of December 18, 2025 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

A visitation for Paul will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to his family for a later designation. Paul Andrew Winter was born on July 31, 1948 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children born to Vernon “Red” and Buena (Miller) Winter. Paul grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa and was a graduate of Marshalltown High School Class of 1966. After graduation, Paul began working for Fisher Controls which would lead to a 37-year career with the company and where he would later retire.

On October 27, 1979, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathleen “Kathy” Smith at the St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They made their home together in Marshalltown. Paul was a life long Iowa State Cyclone Fan. He enjoyed going to the games over the years where he would be known to tailgate. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 893. He additionally enjoyed in his free time, playing golf, traveling alongside Kathy, watching NASCAR and took interest in the Indy Car races and drag races. Another of his favorite past times was showing his red vintage Camero at car shows. Others often claimed Paul to be a walking book of knowledge.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Kathy Winter; his nieces and nephews, René (Aaron) Wiegand and her family, Annette Adkins and her family, Marvin “Josh” (Audrey) Brown IV and his family, Bob (Dawn) Voelker and his family and Keith Voelker. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Sue (Marvin III) Brown and Nancy (Wayne) Voelker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Buena Winter; siblings, Danny Winter and Michael Winter and his mother and father-in-law, Cliff and Irma Smith.
