Paul L. Yale
Choral Music Teacher, Counselor, AVUHSD
Paul L. Yale, 81, of Palmdale, CA died on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Antelope Valley Medical Center in
Lancaster, CA.
Mr. Yale worked in the Antelope Valley Union High School District for 33 years. He began his teaching career in 1972 as the Choral Music teacher at Palmdale High School. During Mr. Yale's time as the Choir Director at Palmdale High School he was known for his musical excellence, his passion for inspiring young singers, and his ability to produce award-winning choirs year after year. When he moved to Quartz Hill High School in 1995 to work in the Guidance Office as a counselor, one of his former students took over the Choral Program at Palmdale High School, consequently creating a musical legacy that survives to this day, and will continue into the future. In 1999, Mr. Yale transferred to the Guidance Office at Highland High School, where he worked as a counselor until his retirement in 2005. After he retired, he continued to serve the AVUHSD as the Assistant Choral Director at Quartz Hill High School.
Mr. Yale was born in Buffalo, New York, to parents who were both professional musicians. When he was eight, the family moved to Inglewood, CA, where he grew up. He was involved in his parents' accordion studio, and played in the Yale Accordion Orchestra as he was growing up. He graduated from Morningside High School in 1962. He then studied vocal music at El Camino College in Torrance, CA, until he was drafted in 1966, where he served in the Army during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5) during his service. Upon the completion of his military service, he finished his college education at Long Beach State University, where he earned his Bachelor's of Music degree and a Lifetime Teaching Credential. After he began teaching, Mr. Yale earned a Master's degree in Psychology and a Counseling Credential from La Verne University.
An avid golfer, Mr. Yale also enjoyed racquetball and tennis, gardening, and playing the piano on a daily basis. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to take pleasure in puns. He had a deep impact on everyone whose life he touched, especially those whose hearts he touched through music. He was beloved by everyone who knew him, and his presence lives on in us. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Yale is predeceased by his parents, Oakley and Melba Yale, and his brothers Oakley and Darrell Yale. He is survived by his wife, Anne Yale, his sisters, Margo Jans and Melody Frazier, his sister-in- law, Irene (Darrell) Yale, his step-son, Geoffrey Bailey, his step-daughter, Shannon Bailey, and her husband, Richard Rosete, two grandsons, Richard Rosete, Jr. and Xavier Rosete, and his nieces and nephews: Julie, Thomas, Mark, Douglas, David, Paul, and Christina Yale, and Brian and Kenneth Frazier.
The family is planning to honor Mr. Yale's memory with a Choral Concert in Palmdale in the near future. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of PAUL, please visit our floral store.
