Paula Marie Smith passed away peacefully at her home on December 7, 2024, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 26, 1951, Paula spent her 73 years exemplifying compassion, generosity, and a deep commitment to faith, family, and community. She was predeceased by her beloved parents and her brother, Tom, who she now joins in eternal peace.
Paula's dedication to serving others was evident in her roles with numerous non-profit organizations throughout her life, including The Institute of Logopedics, Hospice, Kansas Humane Society, and Rainbows United. Beyond her professional contributions, she poured her heart into volunteering, devoting years to serving disabled children, supporting assault survivors, and assisting veterans.
Paula also found immense joy in music. She cherished performing in community choral groups, where she created lasting friendships and shared her love of singing.
Paula is survived by her loving son, Matt Smith; her devoted daughter, Rachel Vilven (Mike); and her treasured grandsons, Elias and Owen, who brought her boundless joy. She also leaves behind her dear brother, Bill Krejchi (Sybil), and her sister-in-law, Paula, whose lives were forever enriched by her warmth and unwavering love.
Paula's legacy is one of selflessness, resilience, and kindness. Her life was a testament to the power of love and service, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered by the many lives she touched.
Funeral details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Kansas Humane Society or a local hospice organization in her memory.
