Pauline Eleanore Seward was born on August 11, 1927, to Clarence and Edna Carlquist in Turlock, California. Pauline passed peacefully at Community Hospice in Hughson, California, on August 6, 2025, five days short of her 98th birthday. Pauline was raised in Hilmar and grew up on a dairy farm during the Great Depression and World War 2. The oldest of three sisters, she learned to work on the farm to help support the family while attending school in Hilmar. She graduated high school in 1945 and attended a year of college. Pauline fell in love with Ralph Seward, who worked for her father, and married him in 1949 at the Hilmar Covenant Church where she remained a lifelong member. Together they had three sons, Chris, Mike and Matt, who all attended Hilmar schools and resided and worked in Hilmar farming enterprises. Pauline and Ralph started farming almonds with her family in 1959 and from that time forward, she was an almond farmer. On Ralph's passing in 2007, she became head of Ralph Seward, Inc., farming 120 acres. Today, the trees are on their third generation of plantings. Pauline and Ralph were partners in work and fun. They were longtime members of the Turlock Horsemen's Club, and loved to travel and go on cruises. For their 50th Wedding Anniversary they took the entire family on a cruise. Pauline was all about her family. An avid sports fan, Pauline loved the Forty Niners and Giants. She attended all of her children and grandchildren's sporting events, and also never missed a piano or dance recital. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Edna Carlquist; husband, Ralph; sister, Dorothy Wright; and dozens of beloved horses, dogs and cats. She is survived by her sister, Carol Holmquist; her three sons, Chris (Debbie), Mike (Sandy) and Matt (Tima) Seward; six grandchildren, C.J. and Adam (Candice) Seward, Nick (Lakynn) and Josh (Kristen) Seward, Sarah (Dave) Talach and Kristina (Michael) Vaz; and Phil, her cat and companion of 15 years. Pauline had 17 great-grandchildren: (Chris) Emersyn, Charleston, Cora, Clementine and Archer; (Mike) Holden, Lennon, Harlow, Felicity, Melody and Holly; and (Matt) Colton, Ben, Delaney, Henry, Mac and Poppy Pauline. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20th, at the Turlock Funeral Home Chapel, 425 N. Soderquist Road, Turlock. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 21st, at Hilmar Covenant Church, 20056 American Avenue, Hilmar. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 2201 Euclid Avenue, Hughson, CA 95326.
