Pavitar K. Grewal

OGDENSBURG- Mrs. Pavitar Kaur Grewal, widow of S. Sampuran Singh Grewal died peacefully at her residence in Ogdensburg NY. She leaves behind a vibrant legacy of twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren. She was born in a rural farming family in United Punjab in 1932 and spent her early years in India. She married at a young age and moved to Kenya, Africa, with her husband. After her husband's death, she went back to their native town in Ludhiana, Punjab, to raise her six daughters and two sons, with the help of her and her in-laws extended family. She moved to Canada in 1983 to join her daughter. After having lived with each of her children for some time, she eventually moved to Ogdensburg, NY to live with her youngest son.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, three sons-in-laws, Narinder Bains of Windsor, Ontario; Jeet Singh Rai of Pune, India; and Dilbag Bains of Canton, Michigan, and one grandson, Manu Bains of Canton, Michigan. She is mother/mother-in-law of Jagjit and Manmohan Chahal of Albany, NY; Paramjit Kaur Bains of Windsor, Ontario; Harminder Jeet Kaur Rai of Burnaby, BC, Rupinderpal and Jaswant Grewal of Calgary, Alberta; Pawan Bains of Canton, Michigan, Sharanjeet and Jasbir Barn of Brampton, Ontario; Jagdeep and Amarinder Dhaliwal of Wheatley, Ontario; and Gurinderpal and Kavya Grewal of Ogdensburg, NY.
Visitation will be held at Frary Funeral Home, 515 Caroline Street, Ogdensburg, NY, on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a gathering at the Elk's Lodge from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for refreshments on Saturday.
On Sunday, January 11, 2026, a viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a prayer service at 10:00 a.m. and cremation at 11:00 a.m. at Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland, Ontario, Canada.
Bhog and Antim Ardas will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Sikh Temple, Ottawa Sikh Society, 25 Gurdwara Road, Nepean, Ontario. (https://ottawasikhsociety.com). The family invites all to join them for langar on Sunday at the Ottawa Gurdwara.
