Pearl (John) Charles of Quincy, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2025 in the care of her loved ones.
She was originally from Trinidad and the beloved widow of Dalton Charles also of Trinidad. Loving mother to Phillipa Gregoire (Debbie) with husband Louis, Edtrich (Richie) with wife Peggy, Vittorio (Lanny) with wife Petronilla, Derrick with wife Ruth, Schyuller, Curtis with wife Rose, Tamara (Twinkle), Adilson (Dilly), and the late Antonio. Sister to the late Evrol. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. During her final years, Pearl was also lovingly cared for by Tom Sullivan who came to be to her like a son and to whom the family expresses much gratitude for his devotion and selflessness.
Pearl was known for her humour, laughter and jovial nature. She enjoyed a very close relationship with her late mother whom she would proudly recall was a school teacher also skilled in the art of wood finishing. An avid reader, particularly of the Bible, Pearl would often recite Psalms and Proverbs to her children. As a young mother she sewed clothing for her children and had a passion for textile craft. She took great interest in her grandchildren and delighted in their achievements.
Pearl sewed clothing for her children and loved music and dance. She could always be heard singing hymns and the like while working at home. She enjoyed gardening, planted many varied fruit trees, rare plants and flowering specimens; she and her husband at times reared livestock. She was knowledgeable on natural remedies utilising herbs and vegetation and would never refuse a cup of tea. Her family always looked forward to her home made meals, breads, cakes, wines, jams and confections. Her family also wishes to acknowledge and express warm thanks to all the supportive friends over the years, her in-laws and their children and all the healthcare personnel whose lives she touched in a profound way. They are all too numerous to mention by name but will be remembered for the kindness they showed. She was the heart of her family and will be missed more than words can express.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 7/6/2025 from 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY with a memorial service from 3:30-4:30 PM in the funeral home.
