Pedro "Pete" Hernandez Jr., a cherished and beloved figure in the Corpus Christi community, passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 63, after a courageous battle with cancer. Pete was born on May 30, 1961, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he also took his final breath, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Pete was a man who lived his life with an abundance of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. These traits were the cornerstones of his being, touching the lives of everyone he encountered. His early years in Corpus Christi were filled with the laughter and joy of a close-knit family, and his warm spirit was a testament to the loving upbringing provided by his parents.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Hernandez Sr., and he carried forward the legacy of his family with pride and honor. Pete's mother, Charlotte T. Miller, his brother, Jesse T. Hernandez, nephew Steven M. Fino, stepmother Alice Galvan, and sister Alma Padilla also preceded him in death, leaving behind memories that will be forever cherished and celebrated.
Pete's life was a beacon of inspiration, not only to his family but to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his adoring sisters, Veronica H. Dela Rosa, Monica H. (Richard) Valenzuela, Jessica H. (Jose) Garcia, and JoAnn G. (Eleno) Garcia, and brothers Charles (Leah)Miller, and Jesse (Anita) Aranda. Each of them will carry forward his legacy of love and devotion.
A man of many interests, Pete found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for music that was as infectious as his smile, often drawing people together in moments of harmony and happiness. His artistic talent shine through in his delicate drawings on handkerchiefs, which showcased his attention to detail and love for beauty in all its forms.
Pete's creative spirit was also evident in his handcrafted rocking chairs and crosses made from clothespins, each piece a symbol of his dedication to his craft and his desire to bring comfort and peace to others. His ability to transform simple materials into treasured keepsakes spoke volumes about his imaginative mind and generous heart.
Beyond his artistic endeavors, Pete's true calling was helping others. His selfless acts of kindness were a daily reminder of the goodness that exists in the world. Whether lending a listening ear, offering a helping hand, or simply sharing a warm smile, Pete's presence was a source of solace and strength to many.
