Pedro Rodriguez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cox Funeral Home - Manchester on Oct. 1, 2025.
Pedro A. J. "Tony" Rodriguez of Manchester, GA died Monday, August 4, 2025 at Emory St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Tony was born on June 8th,1946 in Havana, Cuba, the son of Pedro Rodriguez and Zoila Acosta Rodriguez. His family moved from Cuba on September 2nd, 1962 to Manchester, GA. Tony and his family immigrated from Cuba, fleeing Castro's communist regime. He arrived in the States not knowing the English language. Tony had already graduated high school in Cuba, but was placed in the seventh grade in the United States at sixteen years old to learn the English language. After several months, he was moved up to the eighth grade with the encouragement of his aunt Tay Tay, who pushed him and his siblings every day to learn the language, practicing the spelling, pronunciation, and meaning of 25 words a day. Shortly after, he was promoted to high school, where he had to have 18 credits to graduate. He graduated from Manchester High School in May of 1967 and was the recipient of the Beta Award, recognizing him for his academic success. In June of 1967, he began working as a conductor for the CSX Railroad and retired as an engineer after forty years of service. Tony loved his job and the people he worked with.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Caridad Beruvides. He is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Mildred Thrash Rodriguez, daughter, Kim Rodriguez Padgett (Brian) of Columbus, GA, two granddaughters, Delaney and Chandler Padgett, two brothers, Ramon (Jackie) and Carlos (Wanda) Rodriguez of Manchester, GA, and sister, Charito Fernandez (Louis)
of Deland, FL. Tony deeply loved his many nieces and nephews, but was especially close to Kristi Tumlin and Robyn Pynenburg.
