Pedro R. Sanchez Jr., a beloved member of the community, passed away on October 26, 2023, in Midland, Texas. Pedro was born on July 28, 1935, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and love that will be cherished by his family and friends for generations to come.
Pedro's professional journey spanned various fields throughout his life. He dedicated 20 years to working for Coca-Cola, ensuring that refreshing beverages reached countless homes and businesses. After that chapter of his life came to an end, Pedro spent 25 years with the Texas Department of Transportation as a signs technician before retiring. His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on the state's infrastructure.
However, it was in the barber shop where Pedro truly found his passion and touched the lives of many. For over 50 years, he skillfully wielded his clippers and scissors as he transformed hair into works of art. People from surrounding towns would flock to him for a haircut, not only because of his expertise but also because of the genuine connection he formed with each person who sat in his chair. Pedro's barbershop was not just a place for grooming; it was a haven where stories were shared, advice was given, laughter echoed through the air.
Pedro's dedication extended beyond his professional life. He attended barber school at a young age and honed his skills with unwavering determination. It is worth noting that at the age of 17, he was offered the opportunity to play for the LA Dodgers but declined the offer to pursue his passion for barbering.
When Pedro wasn't cutting hair or attending to his countless responsibilities, he found joy in other pursuits. A true Texan at heart, he had an undying love for baseball and rooted passionately for the Texas Rangers year after year. He also found solace in watching the Dallas Cowboys play, displaying great enthusiasm and support.
Woodworking was another of Pedro's cherished hobbies. He had a natural talent for crafting beautiful pieces from raw materials, leaving his creative mark on each project. But it was his discovery of glitter that truly ignited his joy. Pedro fell in love with it and sought to add a touch of sparkle to everything he could, bringing a little bit of magic into the lives of those around him.
Among his proudest accomplishments, being a barber distinguished Pedro's life. The friendships he formed and the smiles he created were testaments to his dedication and skill. The impact he made on the lives of others will continue to resonate for years to come.
Pedro was a devoted family man who cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Angelina Acosta Sanchez, and their children: Mundo, Johnny, Tommy, Anita, Cecelia, and Elsa. His 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to Pedro's life.
As we mourn the loss of Pedro R. Sanchez Jr., we take solace in knowing that his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
