Peggy Chandler, 84, of Snyder, TX passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones, who will miss her terribly, especially her husband Doyle Chandler. Peggy and Doyle were married for 69 years and 9 months, married in their teens they chose, through the decades, repeatedly, to stay true to their vows, “through sickness and health, till death do us part, I do.” A funeral service for Peggy will be held at 10 am, Monday, March 10, 2025, at First Baptist Church. Service officiated by Reverend Ken Branam, burial will follow at Snyder Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, March 9th from 5-6 pm at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Peggy was born November 30, 1940, to Mavis and Raymond Kirkland in Snyder, TX. In Peggy’s 84 years she worked with her husband and in-laws at their family dairy; she helped run the small family hotel; she was a professional dog-groomer, specializing in poodles; she was known as the “best parts person in Scurry County” at 84 Truck & Trailer; she was an accomplished diesel mechanic; she sewed doll clothes and her children’s clothes; she created hundreds of quilts (and she charged for two of them), gifting them to a drug rehab in Abilene, TX and to formerly incarcerated women who went through a program called Truth Be Told. Peggy was dyslexic and struggled in her early years, because in her school days this learning challenge wasn’t understood, but despite not reading above 3rd grade level, she accomplished all these things listed above. She did this by having a photographic memory. She, like her father Raymond, could look at a photo and remember how to put things together. She also had a dream world that helped her learn things. She dreamed her quilt designs and she learned how to crochet, visited by her great-grandmother in a dream. Peggy, creative visionary, who put love in every stitch of her quilts and well as in her daily actions. Her creations are spread among the states, blessing hundreds with her gifts.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Doyle Chandler.
By her children: Carol Ann Waid, of Austin; Donald Ray Chandler (wife Laurie), of Snyder; Vickie Jean Jones (husband Bobby), of Snyder.
By her sister Doris Sutton of Hobbs, NM; her sister Sarah Sibert of Wurtsboro, NY; nieces and nephews spread across Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, New York, New Jersey and Texas.
Grandchildren: Mandy Waid, Casey Jones, Nicky Jones, Ricky Waid, Jenny Wilson, Brady Jones, Katie Mendoza, and Wesley Chandler, as well as their spouses. Seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her first-born child Stephen Eugene Chandler, her parents Mavis & Raymond Kirkland, her in-laws Hunk & Cleo Chandler, her sister Joyce “PeeWee” Hill.
Special thanks to all of the staff at West Texas Hospice, Doyle could not have done it without their 24-hour love and support for the last 7 months. Bell-Cypert-Seale and staff for their patience and guidance, and Snyder Cemetery for compassion and extra patience.
