Peggy D. Johnson, 72, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Georgetown, Kentucky. A resident of Stamping Ground, Peggy was born in Georgetown on February 28, 1953, to the late Christina Hansel Stanfield and Hunter Porter, and married to the late Gary Lee Johnson. Peggy was strong and free spirited. In her younger years she worked with horses around the thoroughbred farms of central Kentucky, including at Valkyrie Stud farm and at the Keeneland racetrack. She was among the first class to complete KEEP, the Kentucky Equine Education Program. Peggy loved watching Westerns, bull riding, horse racing, and always searching for arrowheads and "neat" rocks in the fields of Kentucky.
Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Chana (Jonathan) Davis, Jessie (Darrell) Johnson, and Beau (Jessica) Johnson all of Georgetown, as well as Stephen (Loren) Fisk also of Georgetown; her siblings, Kim (J.J.) Porter of Stamping Ground, Laurie (Jimmy) Oaks, and Todd (Jennifer) Porter, both of Cynthiana; her grandchildren, Beylah Davis, Genevieve Davis, J.C. King, Bronson King, Bayleigh House, Kai house, Kaylynn House, Madison Johnson, Lily Johnson, Penny Johnson, Braden Johnson, Logan Johnson, Scarlett Fisk; a brother-in-law, Eric (Sue) Johnson of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Connie and Ruthie. She will be missed by all, especially her beloved dog, Blue, and her cat, Sam. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: a sister, Brenda Lamb; a nephew, J.C. Oaks; and a special friend, Terri Baker.
A private service is planned to be held at Salem Church, 700 Biddle Pike, Georgetown, Kentucky. Memorial donations are recommended to the Salem Church Women's Group. Family and friends are encouraged to share their condolences and memories here on Peggy's tribute wall.
